Kelsey Mitchell has really turned on her game after a rather slow start to the 2025 season. She is undoubtedly having one of her best seasons yet. In her last appearance against the Chicago Sky back on July 27, she became the first player in franchise history to score those 35 points in less than 30 minutes of action.
Mitchell also joined teammate Caitlin Clark as the second player in franchise history to finish a game with 35-plus points, five-plus assists and five-plus three-pointers made. Her big season in scoring landed her a third consecutive All-Star game selection.
Mitchell is not only sitting at the top of the stat lines for the Fever, but she is also currently averaging 20.2 points per game, third best in the WNBA. She owned the 3-point line against the Sky draining seven of 10 attempts from beyond the arc, just three shy of the single game franchise record - one she set back in 2019.
Mitchell has done it all for the Fever which has been huge amid Clark's absence and even more so for head coach Stephanie White, who has had a hard time putting a fully healthy team on the floor all season long.

Where would the Indiana Fever be without Kelsey Mitchell?
It's hard to imagine that the Fever would still be in a position to snag a playoff spot after Caitlin Clark went down with an injury for a second time this season. They currently sit at the sixth seed with the top eight teams earning a playoff bid. The Fever undoubtedly have several talented pieces on their roster, an area they lacked in just a season ago.
The 'next player up' mentality has been their mantra all season long, a position they did not want to repeatedly find themselves in. Clark is the big name superstar, but Mitchell is the unsung hero for the Fever. She has been a reliable player her entire career even dating back to her days at Ohio State. That's one element that made her so appealing to Indiana when they drafted her second overall back in 2018.

This coaching staff has faced many obstacles this season, but one thing that has remained true is consistency in Mitchell's production. She plays fast and hard every second she's out on the floor making it a nightmare for opposing teams to guard her. By the time they pick her up, she's already changed directions because of how witty she is.
She can drive quickly to the basket for a layup and is even one of the best at the lethal crossover on her defenders before taking a step back to drain a deep shot. Her point production isn't the only thing keeping the Fever's season alive, it's the example she sets for all her teammates. After all, Mitchell has been through more than most players. She has endured the up and down years of the Fever having played seven prior seasons with them.
Her effort, heart, attitude and experience are all what make her arguably the most important piece. There are so many qualities to Mitchell that can't be coached which is what makes her so valuable to the franchise.
She gives her team the best opportunity to win each game and even when she is having an off night and isn't producing large numbers she is as good as it comes at setting her teammates up for success. Her long term future in Indiana will remain to be seen after re-signing a supermax contract to return for just this season.
The Fever return head to Dallas to face Paige Bueckers and the Wings Friday at 7:30 p.m.
