Tuesday night's game between the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun left people in shock after watching a drama-filled performance from both teams. It all came after one particular incident that involved the Fever's Caitlin Clark on the receiving end of a cheap shot to the eye from the Sun's Jacy Sheldon. Clark would bounce back to confront Sheldon and was then blindsided by a heavy shove from Sheldon's teammate, Marina Mabrey.

One reaction began circulating around TikTok and found its way on other social sites and it involved Mabrey's sister Dara and their mother. The mother-daughter duo captured an interesting moment while watching the controversial play unfold. Dara captioned the video:

"Another day of us watching Marina do crazy shyt."

The intense match-up sparked conversation all over multiple platforms. Mabrey was surprisingly not ejected from the game, although her actions met the criteria for an immediate ejection. Rather, at that moment and after a long review, she was tagged with a technical and was allowed to remain in the game. Lack of control left many fans outraged over the overall lack of accountability and control.

Marina Mabrey foul upgraded to a Flagrant-2

The WNBA announced on Wednesday that, after further review, Mabrey's actions were to result in an upgraded flagrant foul. Although many would say this decision should have been made almost immediately during the game, the league righted the wrong the very next day.

Mabrey will be fined for the foul, as will the Fever's Sophie Cunningham for her actions in the game—which led to her immediate ejection. The upgrade in penalty, however, will not result in any suspension.

Clark dealt with cheap shots the entire game, and it's clear the same negative pattern that was seen towards her last season hasn't brought any change. In fact, another controversial moment was Clark receiving a technical foul after being swatted in the face, which left head coach Stephanie White irate following the game.

Both teams acknowledged after the game that the whole situation could have been avoided had the officials taken the necessary steps to do so. It's currently a failing system, and what makes it worse is that the whole league, who is currently riding on the Clark tide, will likely suffer in more ways than one.

If officiating is not cleaned up, fans will stop watching and attending games. Players need to be better protected, and this includes Clark, who is the face of the league and who is the main one to thank for the league's rapid success.
