Next move for Fever after waiving DeWanna Bonner is painfully obvious

The Fever has officially waived DeWanna bonner, Indy Star reporter Chloe Peterson announced on X Wednesday, a day after Annie Costabile reported Bonner was looking to be traded from the team. The Fever also announced the team has resigned Aari McDonald, and with the cap space freed up from Bonner's $200,000 contract, the team can also sign one more player.
Enter... Laeticia Amihere. Maybe.
Amihiere enjoyed a tremendous preseason with the Golden State Valkyries, but was waived ahead of the beginning of the season (much to the chagrin of fans). The team brought Amihere back on a month later after several players departed for EuroBasket, and since then she has wasted no time proving she belongs in the league.
The trouble is this: once Julie Vanloo, Cecilia Zandalasini, and Janelle Salaün return to the Valkyries, there won't be room for Amihere at Golden State's table (Iliana Rupert is also expected to head to San Francisco after the tournament). EuroBasket will conclude on June 29, which means if the Fever is patient, the team coudl scoop Amihere right up.
The Fever has two games coming up before EuroBasket ends: the team plays the Sparks on June 26 and the Wings on June 27. The team will see Damiris Dantas depart for Amercup June 26, and will be in a tight spot in terms of finding someone who can fill in for Bonner by then.
The Fever could also bring Jillian Alleyne back
There's another familiar name Fever fans could see coming back: Jillian Alleyne, who the team signed earlier this year but waived in early May. Alleyne showed a dedication to the Fever that might serve the team well — as she told FanSided in April, Alleyne arrived in Indianapolis soon after she signed her contract.
"I wanted to get started right away, and I felt it was imperative to get there early," she explained. "Because I want to learn the playbook, build chemistry with my teammates, get adjusted, work out with the coaches, and meet and start building good relationships with everyone, including my coaches and staff."
The 6'3" center-forward most recently spent the 2024-25 season in Turkey with the Tarsus Belediyesi Mersin, where she averaged 18.6 points, 13.8 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.4 blocks per game. Alleyne was drafted by the Mercury as the No. 20 overall pick in the 2016 draft, and has also spent time playing for the Minnesota Lynx and the Washington Mystics.
