Sydney Colson was tapped to start in place of Caitlin Clark in the Indiana Fever's lineup by head coach Stephanie White after Clark went down with a quad injury. The veteran was the obvious answer to the Clark hole, as she's a facilitator first and leader in the locker room.

However, after the Fever's loss to the Washington Mystics, their Friday matchup with the Connecticut Sun was a must win. That's what made Colson going down in the first quarter with what looked like an awkwardly-suffered leg injury even worse. Colson, who was finally handed a consistent starting opportunity for the next few weeks, was suddenly not on the court.

Without Colson, the Fever can rely on veteran guards DeWanna Bonner and Sophie Cunningham, but the depth simply isn't the same without her available. Bonner and Cunningham need their Colson-esque guard to set them up for success. Without her, it's hard to imagine where Indiana will get their consistent starting facilitating from if she's out for longer than just one game.

Colson down with leg injury after awkward fall

Colson went down after going for a ball as it careened out of bounds, getting tangled with a Sun defender. She could barely put weight on her leg as she gingerly made her way to the locker room. No update will be available about Colson until the second half of the Sun game.

We'll update with more information as this develops.
