3 WNBA records Caitlin Clark is destined to break

Caitlin Clark is known for her electric 3-point shooting, which can often turn the fate of a game at the drop of a hat. However, it leaves her passing and finishing at the rim in the background, which is unfair considering how efficient she is with those tools in her arsenal, as well.
The WNBA, which is currently in its 29th season, has seen plenty of records broken as of late from players like Diana Taurasi breaking the league’s scoring record, A’ja Wilson posting a historic 26.9 points per game, total points, and total rebounds in a 2024, and Angel Reese’s record-breaking 13.1 rebounds per game averaged last year.
Clark will have no problem breaking several assists records nor 3-point shooting records as her career goes on, as she already broke some records her rookie season for assists and points scored for a rookie. League-wide, there are still some records she can break.
Here are three that seem primed to be broken by Clark throughout her career, with major from to Across the Timeline’s historical statistical information on the league.
1. Breaking her own single-game assists record
Clark managed to beat the single-game assist record back in 2024 against the Dallas Wings. She recorded 19 total, breaking the previous single-game record held by Courtney Vandersloot, who is one of the best passers in WNBA history. This was with a Fever team that shot a league-high 45.6 percent from the field last season, so it makes sense that Clark would’ve been able to make such a feat doable.
However, 2025 is a new beast entirely. The Fever are built for contention, with Aliyah Boston ever ready to catch lobs from Clark and with shooters like Sophie Cunningham and DeWanna Bonner added to make Clark’s job a bit easier around the perimeter and to provide spacing. It’s perfectly possible we see Clark beat herself in this record.
2. Best assist to turnover ratio in the WNBA for a season
The best assist to turnover ratio over a whole season currently resides with Michelle Cleary, who had a 5.5 AST/TO ratio back in 2000 with the Phoenix Mercury. Clark has a lot of work to do as it pertains to her turnovers, as she sits at five turnovers per game to begin the 2025 season - the highest in the league so far.
But, that’ll come with experience and her ability to protect the ball more. We see turnovers fairly frequently with younger players who are still getting used to the speed and strength of the WNBA, and we’ll see that with Clark. It feels like a given that she’ll have, eventually, the best assist to turnover ratio at some point in her career to top Clearly.
3. Most assists per game in a season
Clark is on this list from her 2024 season, when she averaged 8.4 assists per game in her rookie year. But, this honor (of course) resides with Vandersloot, who averaged 10 assists per game with the Chicago Sky back in 2020, one year before her championship run with the team.
Vandersloot will always be the one to beat in many assist categories for Clark, but this is one she can definitely beat her in probably sooner than we think. Clark is currently averaging 9.3 assists per game, but with her being out for a chunk of time prior to the All-Star break due to injury, that number may take a hit. But, again, this Fever team is built to succeed because of Clark and alongside her.
It’s easy to imagine a world where she’ll still beat Skylar Diggins, Natasha Cloud, and Courtney Williams for this end of year statistical honor.
