WNBA refs screw Caitlin Clark and Fever yet again with awful call vs. Aces

Another day, another controversial officiating decision.

Caitlin Clark turned in her second disappointing game in a row on Sunday as the Indiana Fever fell to the Las Vegas Aces. In classic WNBA fashion, though, one of the biggest stories of the game is poor officiating.

Indiana started to pick up some momentum late in the fourth quarter and were facing a key defensive possession down 5 points with less than a minute left.

With a stop, the Fever could have made it a one-score game to put pressure on the Aces. It appeared Indiana would get that stop, as Aces’ guard Jackie Young plowed into Aliyah Boston on a moving screen. It should have been an offensive foul and a turnover.

Instead, Boston was called for the foul. Stephanie White utilized her coach's challenge in what seemed like a pretty obvious reversal for the refs. Nope. The call stood.

Refs burn Caitlin Clark and the Fever yet again

There's no knowing what would have happened if the Fever rightfully got possession of the ball after this foul. However, one thing is for certain: this foul call completely derailed any chance the Fever had.

Young nailed both free throws to extend Vegas’ lead to seven. Clark wound up hitting two free throws of her own on the ensuing possession but it was too little too late. The clock became the enemy and the Fever ran out of time.

This isn't the only reason the Fever lost. A’ja Wilson turned in a remarkable second half that coupled with a slow game from Clark, was enough to make a difference. Wilson and the Aces went on a 16-2 run in the second half that ultimately put them in the driver's seat.

However, its frustrating that the officiating is yet again a conversation around the Fever. This has become an unfortunate trend that makes no sense. You would think the face of the league would get favorable calls, not the other way around.

It's one thing to call the foul on Boston in the moment. It's another thing to confirm the call on replay when it was so blatantly obvious that it was a moving screen.

Alas, we’ll never know what could have been in this game. Caitlin Clark and the Fever will be back in action on Tuesday against the Seattle Storm.
