WNBA reporter suggests exciting All-Star team pick for Caitlin Clark

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark might be injured right now, but she's expected to be ready to go by the time this year's All-Star game rolls around. She's one of two captains alongside Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier, so she's not only starting but has to assemble a superteam to clash with Collier's crew that weekend.
The game, which will be held in Indiana, is expected to be a lighthearted affair between the top players in the WNBA. It's not really a place for rivalry, except for when Team USA goes up against those who weren't selected for the Olympic team. This year isn't that, though, so we should expect to see some fun hoops in a pretty uncompetitive setting.
That's what makes USA Today reporter Nancy Armour's suggestion in her latest piece on Clark and Angel Reese so fun to imagine. Armour wrote that she feels the best way to quash the "worst" of Clark's fanbase - those who just can't seem to get over Reese's confidence as a player, viewing it as antithetical to Clark for racist, misogynistic reasons - is for Clark to actually pick the Chicago Sky forward for her team.
"But if Clark picks Reese for her All-Star team, it could silence some of the howling chorus of awfulness. The folks saying Reese sucks or flooding her social accounts with vitriol might pipe down if they see she has Clark’s endorsement. The folks who think they’re supporting Clark with their nastiness might think twice when Clark herself gives a public seal of approval," wrote Armour in her plea for the selection.

Armour added in her argument that, "No matter who Clark picks, she’s going to have a good team for the All-Star Game. By drafting Reese, she could have a team that’s good for the entire game and everyone in it." It feels like such a layup for Clark, Reese, and the league, as well.
They've also shared the floor together in an All-Star game: last year's. They play extremely well off of one another since Reese is such a great cutter and Clark has the goggles to make those cuts matter.

Clark doesn't have to quell her fanbase by selecting Reese, but if we're looking at it purely from a gameplay standpoint, it does make a ton of sense to pick Reese to play off of Clark. She has to surround herself with both sharp shooting and defense, and some solid frontcourt play. Reese takes care of two of those three things.
