T.Y. Hilton is ‘Day-to-Day’ X-Rays Were Negative

T.Y. Hilton’s X-rays were negative. Colts fans across the nation can breathe a collective sigh of relief. Hilton left the game Sunday versus the Bills holding his left knee.

T.Y. Hilton was the lone bright spot on the Colts in the first half in Orchard Park, N.Y. The offense’s overall performance was abysmal at best. The receivers were never able to create separation from the Bills secondary.

With the pressure the Bills Defense was generating on Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, every pass had to leave his hands quickly. Without that separation the offense became stagnant. Many of Luck’s passes were either were off-target or forced into tight windows because of the lack of separation leading to quick three-and-out possessions. When the passes were completed, the receivers gained a total of ZERO yards-after-the-catch.

Buffalo successfully blanketed and bullied the Colts receivers throughout the game. Then when the offense did build momentum, the mental mistakes of penalties set the team back. All the factors in this scenario lead to one thing, the makings of an offensive nightmare.

T.Y. Hilton was the lone receiver who consistently created separation. Simply, it was the Ghost being the Ghost. Hilton had 6 catches in the first half and added a 7

th

in the third quarter for a total of 88-yards on 14 targets.

Then, after T.Y. Hilton’s last catch, the broadcast returned from a commercial break and time suddenly stopped.

You see Hilton on the sidelines grabbing his left knee. The trainers were looking at it as he cringed in pain from the trainers testing the joint. Then the camera cut-away and it was back to football.

If you were like me those few seconds on the screen made my heart fall into my stomach. Suddenly, my mind was reeling with the potential devastation of T.Y. Hilton being out for the season. It was later reported during the broadcast that Hilton was in the locker room and getting his knee x-rayed.

This morning, reports are the X-rays came back negative, but Hilton would still need to get an MRI. The initial diagnosis is a severe knee contusion, in laymen’s terms, a bone bruise. T.Y. Hilton’s current status, according to Pro Football Talk, the MRI shows a knee bruise with a prognosis that he is “Probably day to day.” NFL Insider, Ian Rapoport added his insight to the recent medical update:

If Rapoport’s assertions are true, T.Y. Hilton could be out Monday night against the New York Jets and possibly, the divisonal road game against the Tennessee Titans. Neither of those two teams has the defense that Bufflo displayed on Sunday, but it is a concern if Hilton does miss extended time.

The Colts should be cautious and make sure the knee is 100%. A bone burise hurts like hell, and can take time to completely recuperate. Hilton needs to be back and ready before the Colts head into the teeth of their schedule. Weeks 6-10 will be the most difficult stretch of the season as they face teh Patriots, Saints, Panthers, Broncos and Falcons.

Hopefully, the wide receiving corps – which has received high praise for its talent and depth – can step up in his absence and create the separation Luck needs to make plays down the field.

The Colts will host the New York Jets September 21st, at 8:30 pm. in Lucas Oil Stadium. This will be the Colts home opener live on Monday Night Football.
