Indianapolis Colts: What Do Recent Troubles Mean For The Team Moving Forward?

The Indianapolis Colts are roughly one month into the NFL offseason and are facing some serious questions.

Not only are they facing questions with what to do talent-wise after their 38-point thumping by the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game, but they are now facing some serious questions in regards with what to do personnel-wise.

The Colts have seen arrests of two of their own players in the last two weeks. Four in the last month.

On Feb. 4, when linebacker D’Qwell Jackson was arrested for assaulting a pizza delivery-man over a parking spot. Then on Feb. 13, reports broke that running back Ahmad Bradshaw had been arrested and cited for possession of marijuana in Ohio.

Linebackers Josh McNary and Andrew Jackson were both arrested earlier last month. McNary, facing charges of rape, has not yet been officially cut, but the writing is on the wall after being put on the commissioner’s exempt list. Andrew Jackson was cut after being arrested for a DUI shortly after the offseason had started.

The thing is, unlike Andrew Jackson and McNary, D’Qwell Jackson and Bradshaw aren’t just your below-average players that are easily replaceable in a situation like this. They both have had their impact on this Colts team in the 2014 season.

D’Qwell Jackson led the team in tackles with 139 combined. Bradshaw ran for 425 yards on 90 attempts with 2 touchdowns, while leaving his mark in the passing game with 300 receiving yards on 38 receptions, with six touchdowns.

Bradshaw managed to do all of this through only ten games after seeing his season end due to a fractured left leg during a Week 11 matchup against New England. With the release of safety Laron Landry this offseason as well, the Colts are left with many questions that need to be answered come August.

Do they release D’Qwell Jackson and Ahmad Bradshaw after their recent incidents, or do they let it slide for this one time? After all, Ryan Grigson and the Colts have shown a zero-tolerance policy for this type of stuff. The thing is though, both Jackson and Bradshaw are vital for this team moving forward. Or do they let them walk and address the team’s needs via free agency and the draft? Whatever happens though can’t fix the culture problem that the Colts have had the last year.
