Myles Turner shines again in Pacers Summer League loss

Pacers rookie Myles Turner, put together another solid game in the Pacers 85-76 loss to the Magic Monday. Turner had 13 points, 9 rebounds and 6 blocked shots in his second summer league game.

Turner once again showed a nice touch on his jump shot and impeccable timing on his blocked shots. Yes, it’s just the summer league, but Myles Turner could end up being one of the major steals of this year’s NBA draft.

With reports that Roy Hibbert will be traded to the Lakers, his heir apparent is giving Pacers fans something to be excited for moving forward.

Second round pick Joseph Young also made his summer league début. Mighty Joe Young scored all 9 of his points in the first quarter, displaying a quick release and nice shooting stroke on his jump shot. Young wasn’t so mighty after the 1st period, really struggling to finish in the lane. Joe Young also chipped in with 4 assists and 3 rebounds.

Young has had limited practice time, after an illness kept him out of the first summer league game, so I expect him to continue to improve.

Another bright spot was Joe Young’s backup….Mantas Kalnietis. Kalnietis finished with 8 points, 3 assists and 3 rebounds. Though his stats don’t jump out at you, Kalnietis really had this confidence about him on the court.

At 28, Kalnietis has plenty of professional basketball experience. The Lithuanian guard made his Euroleague debut in 2006, and named the 2013 Lithuania Basketball Player of the Year.

Pacers fans are likely hesitant to jump on board, given former Lithuanian guard Sarunas Jasikevicius, who didn’t pan out for Indiana. Kalnietis, however, would be a lower risk even if he’s able to make the Pacers final roster.

Shayne Whittington also had a good showing with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Solomon Hill chipped in 8 points, but was rather disappointing given he’s in his 3rd year and struggling in summer league play.

The Pacers are in action again on Wednesday at 3 p.m against the Detroit Pistons.
