What’s The Latest Buzz Surrounding T.Y. Hilton’s Contract?

Essentially, there were three main opinions that came out of this localized media frenzy. First, if Hilton is paying attention to these big deals then all he is all about the money. Second, there is no way the Colts will be able to re-sign him if he tests the free agent market. Lastly, Hilton will not allow a hometown discount he will be gone. I thought it best to address this from looking at it from Hilton’s perspective, his contract and the contracts situations of his fellow teammates from the 2012 draft class.

  • Indianapolis Colts wide receiver T.Y Hilton is an emerging star in the NFL. He is also in the last year of his rookie contract and is ready to get paid what he deserves. The 2012 Colts Draft Class has been acclaimed for years as Ryan Grigson’s best draft. Yes, in one draft Grigson landed the Colts Andrew Luck, Coby Fleener, Dwayne Allen and T.Y. Hilton and all four were day one starters.

It was expected that at least one of those players would have a new deal negotiated this offseason under the 2015 salary cap. The consensus favorite to get the new deal was T.Y. Hilton who has exceeded expectations each season and – in my opinion – has some reason and right to be bothered by the lack of a new deal. He is Luck’s number one receiver receiving option and is coming off his best season in 2014:
