More On D’Joun Smith:

Smith and Anderson are players to keep an eye on in training camp. Both both are capable of challenging for starting roles. The benefit is that they will definitely be on the field this season but pushing the starters that are penciled in ahead of them will only make the Colts better on defense.

You don’t want a meek kind of milk toast type of guy sitting there,” he said. “This sucker was on the edge of his seat in his (Combine) interview. ~Coach Chuck Pagano

Smith is a prototypical press-man cornerback – with a great use of strength and hands at the line of scrimmage – even if he is slightly under-sized at 5’10” and 187 lbs. Despite his smaller stature, his combine numbers were extraordinary they included a 4.42 40-yd dash, 21 bench reps at 225 lbs and a 10’1″ broad jump.

D’Joun Smith was selected 65th overall by the Colts. Smith is a great scheme fit and an excellent addition to the “No Fly Zone.” He is a capable and confident cornerback who impressed head coach Chuck Pagano  at the draft combine and in interviews:

"“You don’t want a meek kind of milk toast type of guy sitting there,” he said. “This sucker was on the edge of his seat in his (Combine) interview. When he came in, it was all business. … This guy truly believes. At the time we asked him who was the best corner in the draft this year, he said, ‘It’s me.’ He plays with a chip on his shoulder. You have to have it to play that position.”"

He looks to challenge for the slot cornerback position now held by 6-year veteran Darius Butler. Should there be any health issues this year with Greg Toler (and I hope there aren’t any), he could move up to starting on the outside across from Vontae Davis.
