Ink on Indy aims to bring you the biggest news from around the Indianapolis community, including news of an extension for Colts LT Anthony Castonzo.
It may be a lot of money, but the Indianapolis Colts are preparing to lockdown “Andrew Luck bodyguard” and LT Anthony Castonzo, per the NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.
Since the introduction of the Andrew Luck era, Indy’s offensive line has been an area of concern in terms of keeping their new field general safe – but the report of Castonzo’s extension is the first step in the continuation of keeping guys who can protect the Stanford alum and overall #1 draft pick.
In addition, Castonzo has the benefit of playing under a guaranteed salary of over $7 million for this season before see his pay raised to ~$10.5 million under the terms of the new extension.
Various NFL experts from around the league have the Colts heading to Super Bowl 50 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, but the lines on both sides of the ball will have to do to their absolute best week in, week out to make sure of their chance.
Overall, it’s excellent news for Indianapolis and for Luck, as Castonzo is regarded as one of the better tackles in the league – and Bleacher Report ranked the Boston College alum as the 10th best LT around last season.
The Indianapolis Colts open the season on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills away from home before returning home to host the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.
