Can you feel it Hoosier Nation? The falling leaves, the smell of the crisp autumn air and the frosty mornings can only mean one thing. Basketball season is almost here.

Hoosier fans have waited months for this and now we are officially one week from the start of Indiana Men’s Basketball. Okay, technically the schedule says their season starts on November 13th against Eastern Illinois.

For all of the fans of the Indiana Hoosiers, their season begins on Saturday, October 24th. It kicks off with the annual celebration better known as Hoosier Hysteria. This celebration has gone by many names over the years from Midnight Madness to the Haunted Hall of Hoops. Nowadays, everyone in Indiana and the rest of Hoosier Nation knows it as Hoosier Hysteria.

The Hoosiers are one of five B1G schools featured in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll. Indiana is ranked #15 on the most recent poll along with #3 Maryland, #13 Michigan State, #17 Wisconsin and #24 Purdue. With an early preseason ranking, expectations for the Hoosiers are extremely high as they return four of their starters – Yogi Ferrell, James Blackmon, Nick Zeisloft, Troy Williams – and the sensational 4-Star recruit, Thomas Bryant.

Needless to say, this highly touted group will draw a huge crowd to Assembly Hall. In anticipation of this likelihood, the university is running a reserved seating giveaway on Twitter using #HoosierHysteria. So if you have a Twitter account be sure to check out the details in the tweet below.

This event is for the great fans of Indiana Basketball and a little for potential recruits as well. It is not just a ceremonial start to basketball, it is a celebration of the tradition, pride and culture that is Indiana Hoosiers Basketball.

There are many season-opening events in college basketball. That feature a team scrimmage or exhibition. They might even have contests and special guest appearances. But, this is Indiana. The love of basketball across the Hoosier State is a passion unprecedented anywhere else in the nation.

Sure, James Naismith invented the game in Massachusettes, but nowhere in the nation has it taken root as it has in Indiana.

Springfield College may be the birthplace of basketball, but Indiana is its home.

So come on Hoosier fans! Welcome, your team home. Circle the date on your calendars and make sure you get there early for Hoosier Hysteria.
