Indianapolis Colts: 5 Biggest Training Camp Questions

Will the Colts Finally Have a Top 10 Defense?
This has been the elephant in the room ever since Chuck Pagano became the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts in 2012. Pagano, a defensive coach, has struggled to build a top 10 defense in Indianapolis. Is this the year he succeeds?
Pagano’s failure to build an elite defense can be attributed to multiple things. Some think Grigson has not invested enough money into defensive players.

Meanwhile, others think Pagano has not invested enough time in individually coaching his defensive players. Whatever the case may be, Pagano is trying his best to improve the defense in 2016.
The Colts revamped their defensive coaching staff. They replaced Greg Manusky with Ted Monachino and added a new group of defensive position coaches. The Colts made these moves with the hope that they will have a more aggressive defense in 2016.
With Monachino as the defensive coordinator, the Colts plan to attack opposing offenses much more often than in previous seasons. Under Manusky, the Colts defense played it safe and focused on coverage more.
Monachino is not interested in that. He is willing to take risks on defense if it helps his defense create pressure into opposing backfields.
It is hard to say if this style of play will make the Colts a top 10 defense in 2016. However, this style of play has worked well when Monachino was the linebackers coach with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens have been in the Top 10 of total defense in the past two years.
