Colts: Denzelle Good is Early Favorite to be Starting Right Guard
By Kyle Nishida
The Indianapolis Colts do not have a definitive starter at right guard yet. However, recent training camp practices suggest offensive lineman Denzelle Good will eventually be the Week 1 starter at the position.
A few days ago, offensive Coordinator Rob Chudzinski told the media that the race for the starting right guard spot was “wide open.” The Colts had been giving first-team reps at right guard to Good, Hugh Thornton, Jonotthan Harrison and Joe Haeg over the past week.
However, Good has received more first-team reps than the other three players in the past couple of days. This recent trend suggests Good is the early favorite t be the Colts’ starting right guard by Week 1.

Colts’ beat writer Kevin Bowen was one of the many writers and reporters who noticed Good recently receiving more first-team reps in practice.
Most people believe the Colts are still evaluating all their potential starting candidates, but it appears the team wants Good have the first shot at winning the starting job.
Good started in four games at right tackle during the 2015 season in spite of the fact he was a seventh round pick by Colts. In fact, he was the second-to-last pick of the 2015 NFL Draft.
The Colts believe Good is talented enough to play both offensive tackle and offensive guard. Good shares this same belief. Despite being an offensive tackle in college, Good thinks he can seamlessly transition to the right guard in the NFL
"“I definitely feel like I’m a good fit… I have a little quickness carried over from playing the tackle position. I feel like I have a little advantage or leverage when it comes to that, and then my strength and my feet.”"
Good is a 355-pound offensive lineman who is more agile than he looks. His body frame backs up his claim that he should be able to move to right guard. His frame and strength should help him block strong interior defensive linemen and blitzing linebackers.

It is still too early to make a definitive prediction on who the starting right guard will be Week 1. However, there are reoccurring signs suggesting the Indianapolis Colts want Denzelle Good to take over the starting role.
