Indianapolis Colts Seven-Round Pre-Combine Mock Draft
By Kyle Nishida
Round 6: Travin Dural, Receiver, LSU (6 feet, 205 pounds)
At first glance, people probably wonder why the Colts need a receiver this offseason. However, it makes sense if one thinks about it a little more.
The Colts’ receivers were banged up and inconsistent throughout the 2016 season. T.Y. Hilton earned the receiving title even though he had to deal with multiple leg injuries. Meanwhile, Donte Moncrief missed seven games.
Speed receiver Phillip Dorsett has failed to prove he was worth a first round pick in 2015, and may never live up to that expectation. Lastly, the Colts relied on undrafted rookie Chester Rogers to be their fourth receiver.

Although Travin Dural did not have great college production, there would be an opportunity for him to snag a spot on the Colts’ roster.
Dural had 100 receptions for 1,716 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in four years at LSU. He played in a total of 38 games. Despite his his 17.2 yards per catch average, he really did not have the production he should have given his talent.
He is very quick and uses his hands well to get away from cornerbacks. He is a very good deep threat due to his speed and tracks the ball very well in the air. For the most part, he catches the ball at the highest point.
The reason for his low production in college is partly due to the school he attended. LSU runs a power-run offensive system. Also, the quarterbacks that threw to Dural were not very good.
Right now, Dural grades out as a sixth round receiver because of his lack of production. There is a good chance his stock will rise after scouts watch him at the NFL Combine.
Potential alternatives for Dural include Mississippi State’s Fred Ross, West Virginia’s Shelton Gibson or Baylor’s KD Cannon.

That is it regarding draft picks for the Colts in the 2017 NFL Draft. Obviously, it is still early so they could make some moves to acquire more selections.
Even if that does occur, their philosophy should remain the same: focus on defense and pick their spots with offensive players. Overall, this should shake out as a very good draft for general manager Chris Ballard.
