The Indianapolis Colts Made the Dang Playoffs
By Luke Allen
The Indianapolis Colts (10-6) defeated the Tennessee Titans (9-7) to earn a spot in the NFL Playoffs Sunday night.
The Indianapolis Colts did the dang thing. After starting out the season 1-5, the Indianapolis Colts ended the season going 9-1 to finish with 10 wins and an impressive playoff berth that nobody saw coming. (except for us)
In fitting fashion, the Colts will take on division rival Houston Texans for a third time this season in the opening Wildcard playoff game this coming Saturday at 4:35 PM ET. Not only will this be the rubber match after both teams got a win over each other this season, but the winner will move on to likely play the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round.
Speaking of playoffs, here is how the AFC panned out:
- Kansas City Chiefs (12-4)
- New England Patriots (11-5)
- Houston Texans (11-5)
- Baltimore Ravens (10-6)
- Los Angeles Chargers (12-4)
- Indianapolis Colts (10-6)
The AFC was very, very competitive this year. Patrick Mahomes has led his Chiefs to the number one seed in the conference in an MVP-caliber season. Tom Brady and the Patriots suddenly look like the New England Patriots again. The Los Angeles Chargers, who at 12-4, have to be the best Wildcard team in NFL history, and may be the most complete team in this conference. Rookie Lamar Jackson has reinvigorated the Ravens offense, while Baltimore boasts the best defense in the NFL. Deshaun Watson and the Texans have looked unbeatable at times this season. And then there’s Andrew Luck and the Colts. You already know about them.
The AFC is completely up for grabs. I cannot wait to see how the AFC side of the playoffs. The Texans host the Colts, while the Ravens host the Chargers in Wildcard action this coming weekend. Both games are pick-ems.
However, no matter how far the Indianapolis Colts make it, this season was amazing. They were never supposed to make the playoffs. They had Andrew Luck and a supporting cast of nobodies. This was supposed to be a re-build year. They were not supposed to win more than four games. Frank Reich and Chris Ballard have done an outstanding job of retooling this team, and the future is very bright for the Indianapolis Colts.
