After weeks of anticipation, the Indiana Fever have formally revealed that Caitlin Clark will return for the team's June 14 encounter with the New York Liberty. It's right on schedule as far as the previous projection is concerned, and perfectly timed for the purpose of revenge.

The Fever revealed that Clark would be returning with a post on X that gave fans an understandable surge of optimism over what the season will hold from this point forward.

Clark was diagnosed with a left quad strain on May 26. It was initially reported that she would miss a minimum of two weeks due to the injury, which put her right on schedule to return for the clash with the Liberty. Thankfully, it won't take Clark any longer than anticipated to return to action.

As a result, Clark will return to the court with an instant opportunity to make a statement and exact a measure of revenge against the most dominant team in the WNBA.

Caitlin Clark returns just in time for rematch with Liberty

Indiana will enter Clark's return game at 4-5. It won consecutive games over the Washington Mystics and Chicago Sky with the superstar sidelined, but dropped its first two outings without her and fell 77-58 to the Atlanta Dream in its most recent outing.

The path to returning to .500 won't be easy for Clark and the Fever on Saturday, as the roadblock they're encountering is none other than the 9-0 Liberty.

In addition to being the only undefeated team in the WNBA, New York is outscoring opponents by an unfathomable 23.4 points per 100 possessions. Unfortunately, Indiana knows exactly what it's like to be on the wrong end of the Liberty's dominance.

Clark posted 18 points, 10 assists, and five rebounds during a May 24 clash with the Liberty, but also coughed up 10 turnovers during a 90-88 loss.

As fate would have it, Clark will return to the court against the last team she encountered before her injury. She'll have a chance to learn from past mistakes and build upon the fact that Indiana's margin of defeat was the slimmest of any team that played New York in 2025.

In the event that the Fever hand the Liberty their first loss of the season, it's fair to assume that Clark's case for MVP would take on a new life.

Patience will be crucial as Caitlin Clark returns from injury

For as exciting as that possibility is, it's important to remember that this was the first time in Clark's pro or even college career that she's missed time due to injury. As such, patience will be essential as she eases back into the rotation, let alone the high-usage role she plays.

Clark spoke about the process of recovering from her quad strain and how difficult it can be to prepare to return to a team that had to plan for her absence. Per Michael Voepel of ESPN:

"It's definitely been a process. I think the hardest part is when you begin to feel really good, and then it's just the process of working yourself back into actually getting up and down and getting out there with my teammates. And obviously that can be a little difficult, at the same time, when they're prepping for their games that I'm not going to be available in."

Perhaps it's thus unfair to expect Clark to exact a measure of revenge on the best team in the WNBA. New York is, after all, blowing teams out on a regular basis.

Superstars tend to work in mysterious ways, however, and if anyone can overcome the odds stacked against her, it's Clark.
