Indiana Fever fans received bad news when it was revealed that star guard Caitlin Clark would miss at least two weeks with a quad injury. The Fever had to face the Washington Mystics without Clark and suffered an 83-77 loss to the youngest team in the WNBA.

While it was a tough loss for a Fever team that wants to compete with the best, there were some things to be excited about for Fever fans. For one, DeWanna Bonner put together her best game in a Fever uniform. Secondly, Caitlin Clark sent a subtle message about her injury when she lightly skipped into a team huddle. A clip of it soon made the rounds on social media.

Seeing Clark skip into the huddle is an encouraging sign

The news about Caitlin Clark’s injury were devastating for Fever fans. The team had just gotten its first chance to find a rhythm and build chemistry. With Clark out, the Fever would have to make adjustments again and compensate for the loss of the team’s best player. Even just a few losses, while Clark is sidelined, could have major implications for the playoff seeding later in the season.

The most concerning part of the injury news was that Clark would be out minimum of two weeks, meaning that the Fever might not even get Clark back in two weeks. However, the clip of her skipping from the bench to join a team huddle is a tiny but encouraging smile. If the leg injury was bad enough for Clark to have to miss significantly more time than the minimum of two weeks, she wouldn’t be skipping across the court.

This is only a small sign and far from equivalent to an official injury update, but it could mean that the Fever will have Clark back sooner rather than later.

The Fever still have a strong roster, even without Clark

Clark may be the Fever’s star and most important player, but she is not the only capable person on the roster. Even without Clark, the Fever have a strong roster. DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard, and Kelsey Mitchell are veteran All-Stars who can put up big numbers offensively, and Aliyah Boston is one of the best young bigs in the league. With some time to adjust, the Fever should still be able to put together a cohesive offense and win some games.

The schedule is definitely working in the Fever’s favor. Indiana will face the Connecticut Sun, Washington Mystics, and Chicago Sky in its next three games. The Mystics have proven they can be a challenge for the Fever, but Chicago and Connecticut haven’t even won a game yet. Even without their biggest star, the Fever should be able to take care of business in those games.
