Damiris Dantas set to miss chemistry-building time with Fever, Caitlin Clark

Damiris Dantas, who has been filling in very well as the backup to Aliyah Boston so far this season for the Indiana Fever, will be away from the team from at leat June 28 untli July 6. This is because Dantas will be competing with the Brazilian national team in the AmericupW.
Dantas is one of two Brazilian players set to depart from the WNBA for a short while to compete in the cup - Chicago Sky center Kamilla Cardoso will also be away from the league to take part in the games.
Dantas has emerged as a surprisingly great stretch big to run out in place of Boston when she's gotten into foul trouble early in games or when she simply needs a rest. In 11.4 minutes per game, she's averaging four points and 2.9 rebounds, and she's notably shooting 36.4 from three point range. Over her last two games, she's hitting her threes at a clip of 58.3 percent.
It does sting to see Dantas departing during a pretty key part of the Fever's season, as Caitlin Clark should be back from injury by the middle of the month of June and Dantas could use some chemistry building time with her on the court. Now, Dantas will be returning to the Fever at least two weeks after Clark's return, and will hopefully not have missed a step when she's back in the rotation.
Dantas set to miss key chemistry building time with Clark with international team obligations
There's a slough of players set to depart the league soon to participate in cup games for their international teams, and it's common practice in the WNBA for teams to experience these absences. Indiana still has Makayla Timpson and Brianna Turner on the roster to back fill Dantas' minutes, which should make Timpson fans very happy - the rookie hasn't seen any meaningful playing time for the Fever this season.

With Clark back, Boston should have an easier go of staying on the floor of games, as well. She's gotten into some foul trouble consistently throughout the year, but with Clark back on the floor, the gravity she attracts from defenders should open things up for Boston on the floor to make a big impact on offense to counteract her foul woes.
