Caitlin Clark put together a phenomenal rookie season last year. She impressed with her playmaking and scoring, breaking several records on the way to winning the Rookie of the Year award and leading the Indiana Fever back to the playoffs.

By recording 200 total points and 50 assists in just 12 games, Clark joined a very exclusive club. She joined Cynthia Cooper-Dyke and Andrea Stinson as the fastest players in WNBA history to reach that mark. Now, Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers broke that record.

Paige Bueckers is now the fastest player to reach 200 points and 50 assists

Paige Bueckers beat Clark’s record by just one game. In the Wings’ latest game against the Washington Mystics, Bueckers became the fastest player in WNBA history to record 200 points and 50 assists, doing it in only eleven games

The game marked her third consecutive 20-point game. She also recorded nine rebounds, seven assists, one steal, and one block. Her efforts were not enough to get the Wings a win, though. The Mystics, led by Sonia Citron’s career game, Shakira Austin, and Kiki Iriafen, secured the victory in overtime.

Nevertheless, Bueckers’s achievement shouldn’t be overlooked.

Paige Bueckers might succeed Caitlin Clark as Rookie of the Year

Paige Bueckers entered the season as the favorite to win the Rookie of the Year award. The honor has gone to the number one pick in the draft for three consecutive seasons—Rhyne Howard, Aliyah Boston, and Caitlin Clark were all named Rookie of the Year after being selected with the top pick. Boston even won the award unanimously. That is likely not a feat Bueckers will accomplish this year. She has some strong competition for the award. Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen are playing great and the Mystics are winning more than the Wings.

Bueckers’s rookie season hasn’t been easy. The Wings have only won three games so far. Bueckers, who won a national championship in college and played for one of the great NCAA powerhouses, is not used to that much losing. Moreover, a concussion cost her some precious time on the court.

Nevertheless, Bueckers is playing well and showing the rest of the league why she was the number one pick. She looks every bit like the future star everyone expects her to be. Breaking one of Clark’s records only underlines her potential. Expecting Bueckers to have a historic rookie season like Clark wouldn’t be fair—those seasons happen very rarely—but it is still great to see her match up with the Fever star in some categories.
