The Indiana Fever feature plenty of star players on the roster. Caitlin Clark is the reigning Rookie of the Year while Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston have both made multiple All-Star appearances. Meanwhile, Sophie Cunningham provides valuable depth for Indiana. Additionally, Cunningham has seen a drastic increase in her popularity since being traded to the Fever this past offseason. On Sunday, the Fever guard announced a new partnership with Arby's.
"look who has the meats now #ArbysPartner," Cunningham wrote in the caption of her latest Instagram post. The post featured multiple images of Cunningham wearing a white and red shirt with the words "HOT GIRLS EAT ARBY'S" written on the shirt.
Clark liked the post and Lexie Hull, another Fever player, commented, "SHE HAS THE MEATS."
Cunningham is becoming a fan-favorite in Indiana. She has other partnerships as well. Meanwhile, on Instagram, Cunningham has over one million followers while her TikTok now has 1.5 million followers.
"I didn’t mean for it to blow up like that, I didn’t mean for it to blow up at all to be honest," Cunningham told reporters in early July in reference to her immense increase in popularity, via Andrew Dukowitz. "But at the end of the day I’m here to focus on basketball, I’m still so not satisfied with how I’m playing… this is all super cool, I think it’s fun, I think it’s cool to show young boys and girls that it’s cool to stand up for your teammates, to stand up for your friends… but my mind is I need to start scoring the ball."
Some critics have suggested that Cunningham is only receiving this boost in popularity because she plays on the same team as Clark. However, even though she may not be satisfied with her performance, she has played at a respectable level on the floor.
Cunningham is averaging 7.5 points per game while shooting 43.3 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc. The 28-year-old is also recording per game averages of 3.9 rebounds and 1.0 steals per outing. She plays hard on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, something that provides the Fever with extra energy during games.
No, Cunningham isn't an All-Star. The Fever understand her value, though. She is willing to defend her teammates while also offering strong three-point shooting prowess. Cunningham and the Fever will play the Phoenix Mercury in their next game on Wednesday night.
