Tight End Darion Griswold

The Indianapolis Colts re-signed tight end Dwayne Allen, but lost tight end Coby Fleener this offseason. There is an opening on the roster for another tight end, and Griswold has a chance to compete for it.

His production at Arkansas State does not jump of the page. However, 65 receptions, 892 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns in a college career is very good. With Griswold though, his value is all about potential.

More from Indianapolis Colts

At 6’5” and 255 pounds, he moves very well. His ability to snatch the ball out of the air and use his body to shield the ball away from defenders are definitely his best features.

However, he is incredibly raw as a run blocker. He was not used as a blocker very much at Arkansas State so that part of his game needs to be developed. Fortunately, he has shown he is willing to block when he has had to. The Colts can work with him on being more consistent.

Prior to the draft, some draft analysts projected Griswold as high as a fifth round pick. NFL.com had him in between a sixth and seventh round projection, and yet, the Colts ended up signing him as an undrafted free agent.

The Colts should have no problem taking on a project like Griswold. He has a similar stature to Fleener so they already have a good idea of how to develop him.

Again, the Indianapolis Colts have Allen at the primary tight end, and Jack Doyle, who has been a jack-of-all-trades player for them, will become their backup. Griswold will most likely be battling with Erik Swoope and a few other undrafted prospects for the third tight end spot.
